304 Stainless Steel Sheet with No.4 Brushed Finish
Dongmeng Group manufactures and supplies 304 stainless steel sheets with No.4 brushed finish for commercial kitchens, food-processing equipment, architectural panels, elevator interiors, appliance components and custom metal fabrication.
The surface has a uniform directional grain and a soft satin appearance. Compared with highly reflective BA or No.8 finishes, No.4 brushed stainless steel produces less glare and makes minor handling marks less noticeable.
What Is a No.4 Brushed Finish?
No.4 is a mechanically polished stainless steel finish characterized by a uniform, unidirectional grain and a low-to-moderate reflective satin appearance.
It is normally produced from cold-rolled stainless steel sheet using abrasive belts or brushes. The polishing process creates visible parallel lines while avoiding the highly reflective appearance of BA or No.8 mirror finishes.
Under European surface terminology, cold-rolled brushed or dull-polished finish 2J is generally comparable to ASTM No.4. However, the exact appearance may vary between production lines, abrasive materials and processing parameters. For appearance-critical projects, the finish should be approved using a physical reference sample.

How the No.4 Surface Is Produced
The typical production process includes:

Frequently Asked Questions
Is No.4 finish the same as brushed stainless steel?
No.4 is one of the most common brushed stainless steel finishes. It has a visible directional grain and a satin, low-glare appearance.
Is No.4 the same as Hairline finish?
Not necessarily. Hairline normally has longer and finer continuous grain lines, while No.4 usually has a softer general-purpose brushed appearance. A physical sample should be approved when appearance is important.
Can the grain direction be customized?
Yes. The grain can run along the sheet length or width. Grain direction must be stated clearly for cut panels and multi-panel installations.
Is No.4 finish applied to one side or both sides?
One-side finishing is common. Two-side No.4 polishing can be supplied when specified before production.
Does No.4 stainless steel hide fingerprints?
The brushed texture makes fingerprints and minor handling marks less visible than on bright reflective finishes. An optional anti-fingerprint coating can provide additional protection.
Can 304 No.4 sheet be welded?
